Congratulations to CEPR Research Affiliate Antonin Bergeaud, who has been named the recipient of the 26th edition of the Best Young French Economist Award. The prize is in recognition of a multitude of achievements, encompassing academic excellence, innovative research and developed analysis that recognises and brings awareness to the importance of contemporary debate and public issues.
Established in 2000, the Best Young Economist Prize is a benchmark award for young French economists. Le Cercle des économistes (Monday, 19 May 2025) praised the 2025 finalists for their ‘scientific rigour in the service of the major contemporary issues’, a quality made all the more important at a time when ‘economic research has never been more necessary to give meaning, direction and method to collective action’.
Antonin Bergeaud is an Associate Professor in the Economic Department of HEC Paris. He has been a Research Affiliate in the Macroeconomics and Growth and Organizational Economics programme areas at CEPR since 2021. He also currently serves on the Steering Committee for the Growth, Innovation and Social Model in Europe RPN and a member of the European Economic Policy RPN.
Bergeaud was commended for his detailed and analytical research into technological diffusion and the rise of AI in the workplace. Hippolyte d'Albis (President of the Best Young Economist Prize) and Françoise Benhamou (Le Cercle des économistes) praised Antonin’s ‘desire to tackle difficult questions head-on’ and the practical relevance of his findings in helping society confront current challenges.
Congratulations also to CEPR Research Fellow Mathieu Parenti and Research Affiliate Adrien Bilal, who were two of the three finalists recognised by the Le Monde and Le Cercle des économistes jury.
